Good Evening my brother’s and sister’s in Christ. We’ve made it through the week. Glory be to God. It’s Self-Care Sunday here on Mindful of Me Moments. This past week I’ve been flooded with so many revelations from the Holy Spirit. I was inspired to share one of those revelations with you for my Self-Care Sunday post. As always I pray it encourages you and causes you to self-reflect as needed. Blessings.
“Your only competition is yourself!” How many of you have heard this quote before? It wasn’t until recently I was able to interpret this quote differently. Instead of taking you on a journey of my discovery I’m going to dive right into what the Lord shared me with. He said, “Your only competition is yourself because you are in a constant state of competing with your thoughts.” Our thoughts are what cause us to be fearful. Our thoughts tell us they won’t choose us for the job. Our thoughts tell us no one will read the book we aspire to write. Our thoughts will tell us to quit our pursuit because we’ll never reach our goals. It’s our thoughts that we compete with way before we compete with another person. The enemy places doubt in our mind which in some cases is what stops us from pursuing our purpose.
It’s our thoughts where we find our greatest competition. If you’ve ever talked yourself out of an opportunity then you’ve lost the battle with your thoughts. So how do we win against our competitor?
The word of God says,
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Romans 12:2
How do we renew our mind? We get in God’s word. When you find yourself fearful or doubtful you counterbalance it with the word. “God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind.” This tells me that whenever the enemy attacks our thoughts we are equipped. We have the power over whatever it is he’s saying. We don’t have to fear what we love. Our minds should not be frantic because the word says it’s of sound.
Mindful Moment: In the greek “sound mind” has a two-part meaning. The compound word is “Sophroneo” which is sodzo and phroneo together. Sodzo means to be delivered. Phroneo means a person’s total frame of thinking. God is literally saying in his word despite what we’ve been through, what we face, and what we hear. OUR MINDS HAVE ALREADY BEEN DELIVERED. So stop going around saying you’re crazy, you can’t make it, something has to give. The word of God says, your mind has already been delivered. Don’t allow the enemy to take you places in the mind you’ve been delivered from.
We have to understand there’s nothing in the world we can’t obtain. Our ability to make a mark in our chosen industry has nothing to do with how over saturated it may be. Our thoughts will limit our reach every time if we allow it. I encourage you to adapt the mentality I have when my thoughts are competing with me. I simply remind the enemy, “You won’t outwork me. You’re not my competition. I’ve already won. You’re under my feet. I have dominion over you. My mind is sound. It’s already been delivered. Not even you can get in the way of my pursuit to my purpose.”
Fill yourselves with God’s word. Find those scriptures that counteract what your thoughts are saying. Remember, people of God. We aren’t competing with others. We’re competing with our thoughts. Blessings.
When I decided to allow God to take his rightful position in my mind he gave me courage and confidence. I’ll forever remember and say to myself that I can do ALL things through him. There is no limit in his ability. Thank you Lord for sharing some of your power and wisdom with me. Fantastic post, this is definite a must read and reread as always. Thank you T.Nolan.
